Sardinia is one of the three areas in the world where you can find the so-called petrified trees of Prehistory.
Along the valley of the Riu Altana, about 20 minutes from Valledoria, are the remains of Iscia Petrified Forest (Perfugas) and carruca (Martis).
It's the richest area of the district of fossils, many of which are still buried at various depths. Those visible, located along the banks of the Riu Altana, are large, some drilled in the center, while others are completely mineralized: all wooden parts have turned into rock assuming the appearance of real natural sculptures.
Just a few miles from Lake Coghinas and the Casteldoria Terme.
