The Petrified Forest
A unique treasure
Sardinia is one of the three areas in the world where you can find the so-called petrified trees of Prehistory.
Along the Riu Altana valley, about 20 minutes from Valledoria, are the remains of the Petrified Forest of Iscia (Perfugas) and carruca (Martis).
This is the richest area of the district of fossils, many of which are still buried at various depths. Those visible, located along the banks of the Riu Altana, are large, some drilled in the center, while others are completely mineralized: all wooden parts have turned into rock assuming the appearance of real natural sculptures. Just a few kilometers from Lake Coghinas and the Casteldoria Terme.
